Scientists say we spend a third of our lives asleep. In a year on average you sleep four months. Some people even want more time for sleeping. If you immediately sleep as soon as you make up your mind to sleep then it is fine. There are however those people who want to sleep but sleep does not come. They keep rolling in bed waiting for sleep to come. It may come in one hour or two hours or three hours and so on. Why not go to bed when you are 100% ready to sleep.
Why do we sleep?
There are many theories by scientists why we sleep and the following are some of them;
- The adaptive theory suggests we sleep as a survival function in order to keep safe form dangers which come with the night.
- The energy conservation theory suggests that the primary function of sleep is to reduce an individual’s energy demand and expenditure during part of night when it is difficult to get food.
- The restorative theory states that sleep in some way serves to restore whatever is lost during the part you are active. The body does its repair work when you are sleeping.
- The brain plasticity theory states that sleep is correlated to changes in the structure and organization of the brain. Sleep enhances people’s ability to learn and perform a variety of tasks.
What is the right time to go to bed?
You should go to bed when you are mentally and physically ready to sleep. You cannot sleep if your body is in the house and the mind in the night club. The mind must be in the body for sleep to come. The mindset plays a key role in determining how soon you sleep.
Do not oversleep
Budget the activities in your 24 hour day. On average people sleep for eight hours for every 24 hours. Napoleon says this;
Children require more hours of sleep
The long hours of sleep are necessary to allow the growth of the baby into mature human being.
Reasons for sleep
How many hours must you sleep?
There is no magic recommended number as the number of time slept depends on the individual’s situation. Sleep is like hunger as you will find two people with same age and weight eating different quantities of food.
For effective sleeping make sure your mind is within your body otherwise wake up and go to look for your mind.
